Yay! restructuring! doesn't it sound fun? no not really, but it is essential. many of you are might be wondering "Well gee Osteous, we are doing great, we've made a script, come up with new characters, made a trailer, why do we need a giant ugly re-stupid whatever?"
well my generic friend, because we are almost done with pre-production. and after pre-production comes production (i know who came up with that right?) and we are going to be juggling a lot of things. storyboards have to be made, models fabricated, actors hired music produced and a whole lot of other stuff. reptilegirl outlined it perfectly in this journal: projectfrixion.deviantart.com/…
until right now we have only had to work on one thing, and honestly we arnt that efficient at it. people fail to communicate, resulting in multiple of the same thing being produced, people fight, which is inevitable to an extent but on a professional point should not happen, and we have no deadlines or assignments. it would be good to fix that before we have to do all this crazy multitasking stuff or this is will end in chaos and failure of the project. we do want to make this movie and become famous right? (well, maybe famous on the internet..)
"But osteous! this sounds like a lot of hard work and its not fair to expect everyone to have deadlines and assignments! are you crazy!"

ok sorry couldnt resist but yes, you are right generic frixioneer. we cant expect everyone to have deadlines and assignments and stuff. people need to have lives beyond this project. that is why, three people have been assingned to oversee each department, they will get to know everyone they are overseeing, who has free time to do lots of stuff for the project and can have deadlines and such and who has college or kids or dogs to take care of and cant do as much. this way, people who want to do lots can thrive, and people who dont can as well.
another reason we are doing this and have implemented the new supervisors and arranged everyone into departments is not only does it make it easier to keep track of everyone and what they should be doing, but this way there is not so much pressure on us admin. i love this project. its a once in a lifetime opportunity to create something wonderful for a wonderful group of people, but it is so dragging to have to deal with everyones problems. me and the assistant director both, we cant keep everyone in check, we cant make everyone happy, and we cant babysit everybody. this is certainly a dramatization of what is happening now but in a few months when we are desperately trying to get all the different pieces together it will be like this unless something changes. thus, everyone is in groups, each with a supervisor in charge of it, if someone in a group has a problem you ask your supervisor first, and if they cant help then come to the admin.
this whole new structure has been carefully modelled after the professional structure used in hollywood to make awesome movies like lord of the rings and jurassic park (ok if you dont like those but they were hard to make)
"But Osteous! we arn't professionals! how can you expect us to work like them?"
once again my wise friend you are right. we arnt pros, most of us are under 20 in fact, but why would we shrink from the opportunity to see what thats like? i joined this project to discover something about myself, if i really had what takes to be a director. that is my real reason, because i want to know if a can be pro someday.
now i dont think everyone here is going to go into the film industry and such but really this all a learning experience. we are a working experiment. can a bunch of teenagers make a feature length animated film without ever seeing each other face to face?
duh the answer is no. or so most rational people would say. its never been done before, heck, i dont even think its been attempted before, but does that stop us? no! we want to be somebody! we want to surprise people! we want to be noticed! this restructuring is just yet another step towards those goals, and if you still arnt cool on this new system and stuff, ask yourself this, how badly do i want those things? how much does this matter to me? does this rookie director actually know what he is doing? can he lead this project to success? dont be afraid to ask those questions. questions lead only to further understanding.
so there is your why. why we are doing this restructuring, why i joined the project, just, why.
